Daviess County, Ky., Coroner Bob Howe says the autopsy Friday found the 21-year-old player had an enlarged heart.

Lewis collapsed with 4 minutes to go in Thursday night's game at Kentucky Wesleyan and later died. A Southern Indiana spokesman says fans saw Lewis hit his head on the floor, but Howe says there were no signs of head trauma.

Howe says Lewis may have been unaware of his condition.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Lewis was in his second season with Division II Southern Indiana, averaging 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in 13 games

  1. I cringe every time i read something like this. As athletes we take for granted that we will back at the gym tommorow. In Lewis'case he wont get the chance. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

  2. Prayers go out to his family. Sad day for NCAA Basketball...

  3. Very sad...My concern regarding this is that this could've been detected, and every year it seems like more athletes are dying due to enlarged hearts....maybe the pysical examination process these athletes go thru needs to be examined.
